MINIMALLY INVASIVE HEAD & NECK SURGERY

  • OVERVIEW
  • Vocal cord tumours were initially treated with open surgery, where the voice box was entirely or partially removed. Radiation techniques were then employed to save the voice box from surgery but radiation treatment also doses normal surrounding tissues. For this reason, laser surgery for early cancers and benign nodules is an ideal method to remove tumours with pinpoint accuracy.
  • CO2 (carbon dioxide) lasers have been shown to have the best results for voice box tumours. This laser is beamed from the oral cavity under microscopic guidance and magnification, resulting in the extremely meticulous removal of tumours.
  • The other big advantage of laser surgery is treatment is completed usually in 1 sitting, which is half a day. On the other hand, radiation therapy usually takes 6 weeks.
  • Transoral Laser Microsurgery for Vocal Cord Tumours:

  • OVERVIEW

Transoral Thyroid Surgery also known as TOETVA (TransOral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy Vestibular Approach) is a technique of thyroid surgery performed through the oral cavity (an example of natural orifice surgery). It avoids a scar on the neck and is widely used in countries such as Thailand and other SEA countries. Our surgeons have trained in Bangkok with the leading authorities in this technique.

  • OVERVIEW

The surgeons at NCH are well versed with minimally invasive techniques of thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Parathyroid surgery is performed through usually a 2cm incision (less than 1 inch) with or without help of a telescopic camera. Thyroid surgery when performed at our center in an open technique is through a small incision, around 4cm. Our surgeons are also trained in MIVATS (Minimally Invasive Video Assisted Thyroid Surgery) having trained in Pisa, Italy for this technique. This technique allows the surgeon to perform the incision through a 2cm incision.
